Ashley Scriber Obituary

Ashley Barret Scriber passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the age of 49 at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He is survived by his wife, Anina Legendre van Benthusyen Scriber and their children, Walter Watson, Dorothy Grace, and Julian Baldwin Scriber. He is also survived by his mother, Sharon K. Scriber-Gates of Crossett, Arkansas; and his brother, Randal Kirk Scriber (Mary Catherine) of Pass Christian, Mississippi; his uncle, Ladd J. Scriber (Marcie) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; eight nieces and nephews, Mary Raines, Taylor Ladd, Patricia Brooks, Hastings Marks, William Ernst, Jerry Leo, Ladd Drouin Scriber and Eleanor A. Robinson Halstead and one great niece, Remi Camille Halstead.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Leo Scriber; step father, Michael Dunn Gates; older brother, Jerry Ladd Scriber and grandparents, Leo Edgar and Mary Ladd Scriber of Crossett, AR.

A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Ashley was very active in the Boy Scouts of America during his formative years. He was particularly proud of having attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He would carry that early love of scouting and outdoorsman ship throughout his life. Time spent fishing or a weekend hunting, especially duck hunting, were some of Ashley’s favorite pastimes. It was a passion of his to take family and friends hunting on his farm in northern Louisiana.

Although Ashley was not born in New Orleans, he fell in love with the city. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with a concentration in Banking and Finance and a Master of Business Administration degree from Tulane University where Ashley was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and served as its Treasurer. After graduation, he remained in New Orleans and, over the course of his career, was employed at Legg Mason & Company, Howard Weil Labouisse Friedrichs & Company and Johnson Rice & Company where he spent the majority of his career in Equities Sales. He was also a member of several clubs and carnival organizations.

Ashley was an avid sports fan. He loved Tulane football and baseball and was a big supporter of both programs. What probably brought Ashley the greatest joy of all was spending time with his daughter, Dorothy Grace, and watching his sons, Watson and Baldwin, play baseball. Whether it was cheering on Baldwin at Carrollton Boosters or Little League games or being Watson’s biggest fan at Newman baseball games, Ashley was there and was so proud of his children. He was their number one fan.

A celebration of Ashley’s life was held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue. Visitation will began at 10:00 AM. Services were held at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception at the Parish House.

A memorial service and interment will also be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Crossett Cemetery (Lakewood Cemetery) under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.  www.jonesservice.com
