Crossett lost a true pillar of the community. Nancy Horton died peacefully at the age of 89 on September 14, 2018 as she was surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Crossett, AR, Nancy was born on March 19, 1929 to her parents, Eunice and Whitcomb Anderson. She was a graduate of Crossett High School where she played the marimba and was crowned Termite Queen. Afterwards, she studied music education at Arkansas State Teachers College. During college, she met and married Dr. Edward Gresham and was married to him for 19 years. After his death, she married the late Dr. Lewis Horton.
Nancy spent most of her life sharing her unique talent and love of music at the United Methodist Church where she played the piano, directed the choir and sang. She had many friends and loved the social activities including bridge with her friends, parties at the country club, supper club and hosting showers, coffees and more. She was a beautiful southern lady and a great southern cook. For the past three years, she resided at The Pillars where residents and staff became second family to her. She enjoyed reuniting with old friends and making new ones.
Most of all, Nancy loved her family. She is survived by her brother, W.B. Anderson “Buddy”, Jr. (Jo) of Pensacola, FL; four children, Mary Gresham Steensland (Chuck) of Springfield, VA, Dr. Andy Gresham (Glenda) of Crossett, AR, Leann Gresham Haynes (Todd) of Morrilton, AR and Dianne Horton Patota (Michael) of Suwanee, GA; eight grandchildren, Nancy Gresham, Sara Gresham Rowland, Whitney Haynes Romanoff, Jordan Haynes, Mary Patota, Will Patota, Kate Patota and Josie Patota; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
