Matalane Mayo Preston

Matalane Mayo Preston, age 89, of Hamburg, AR, passed away at her home on Monday, September 2, 2019. Matalane was born on July 5, 1930 in Jones, LA to George Naff Mayo and Bertha Leliah Manning Mayo.  She was a cosmetologist and a salon owner.  Matalane had a “green thumb” and enjoyed her flowers, watching the hummingbirds, reading, music and singing in church in Parkdale Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church.

She  is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Preston; two brothers, George Mayo, Jr. and Eugene Mayo; one sister, Eloise Johnson; one great- granddaughter, Britny Kiana Montgomery. She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Preston Lawrence (Alton) of Conroe, TX; four grandchildren, Mark Shane, Angela Kristen, Rebecca Ann and Kalina Dawn; two brothers, Derwood Mayo (Shirley) of Amity, AR and Billy Mayo (Louetta) of Crossett, AR; two sisters, Mettie Sue White of Magnolia, TX and Betty Smith (Ben) of Crossett, AR, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the morning, Thursday, September 5, 2019 at South Side Baptist Church in Hamburg, AR.
