Virginia Cherrill McElroy age 84 died on Sunday, May 14, 2017.  Virginia was born on November 2, 1932, to George (Preacher) and Agnes Hagood and was a lifelong resident of Crossett.  Her education began at Murphy Elementary School and continued to Crossett High School where she graduated in 1949 at the age of 16.  Virginia worked as a secretary at Burr’s Department Store, Chase Bag Company, and then Georgia-Pacific where she worked until her retirement in 1994.  She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church and a former member of the Crossett/Hamburg Camp of the Gideon’s international auxiliary.  Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Jamie McElroy who she married on February 26, 1954, her parents, and a son Clyde Randall McElroy.

She is survived by her children, Rusty McElroy (Sandy) of Ashdown, AR, and Susanne Ballard (Greg) of Crossett; her sister, Mary (Mae) McDaniel of Crossett; four grandchildren, Brittany and Hannah McElroy of Ashdown, Josh and Jeremy Ballard of Crossett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Magnolia Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Griffith officiating.  Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, AR. (www.jonesservice.com)

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Rusty McElroy, Greg Ballard, Josh Ballard, Jeremy Ballard, Steve McDaniel, and Robin McElroy.
