Emma Zelle Gulledge Manning passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Baton Rouge, LA.  She was born on March 19, 1926 and was a lifelong resident of Crossett, AR until she moved to Baton Rouge in 2014 to be closer to her remaining family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edmund Manning; parents, William Joel Gulledge and Naomi Savannah Cole Gulledge; five brothers, William Buford Gulledge, James Byron Gulledge, George Burrell Gulledge, Thomas Bayne Gulledge and Jack Gulledge.

She is survived by two daughters, Carmen Manning Porta and husband Buddy Porta, and Carol Manning Newton and husband Pete Newton; two grandsons, Greyson Manning Newton and wife Amanda Cavalier Newton, and Garrett Charles Newton; one great-granddaughter, Riley Grace Newton.  Emma Zelle delighted in her grandsons.  Her joy was increased greatly last week upon the birth of “Miss Riley” on September 21.  Emma Zelle is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

Emma Zelle was an employee of the “Old Crossett Company,” which was sold to Georgia-Pacific.  She retired in 1991 with 29 years of employment.

Emma Zelle was a very active and creative person who enjoyed many activities throughout her life.  She enjoyed cooking, baking bread, canning/pickling, reading, shopping, decorating, quilting and several other types of needlework, sewing, gardening, traveling, riding in Charley’s Model T car, their monthly supper club, her Sunday school class, the Birthday Club and visiting with friends.  She liked watching sports – especially her dearly-loved Razorbacks!

Her family members were so grateful that she lived in Baton Rouge for the last 19 months.  She resided in Williamsburg Senior Living Community.  The family is grateful to the entire staff for the warm, caring environment at Williamsburg.   It was a blessing to have had her living there so that we could enjoy more time with her.  Emma Zelle always maintained optimism, a positive attitude and a happy disposition throughout her life, no matter what was facing her.  She was outgoing and made new friends easily.  Momma will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, Crossett, AR.  Brother Don Justice will officiate at the service.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Crossett.  Burial will be at Pinewood Memorial Park in Crossett.  All services are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home.
